The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation supports nonprofits aligned with our businesses and values, while putting the power of giving into our employees’ hands.
We offer several opportunities for employees to give back. Our annual Local Impact Grant Program (LIGP) enables employees to nominate and vote for nonprofits to receive grants from our Foundation. Annually, on Giving Tuesday, an international day of giving we match our U.S.-based employees’ donations made through our volunteer platform, dollar for dollar. Plus, each year, eligible employees receive eight hours of paid time off to volunteer for the causes most important to them.

The Local Impact Grant Program
The Local Impact Grant Program (LIGP), funded by the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation, was launched in 2019. This invitation-only program driven by our employees, enables them to nominate and vote for nonprofits to receive a grant from the Foundation. In its first two years, we provided grants to over 60 nonprofits in North America for programs and initiatives that align with our strategic giving pillars.
Our COVID-19 Response
2020 has presented unique challenges for people across the globe as a result of COVID-19. Newell Brands and The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation rapidly pulled together resources to support nonprofit organizations in need.
Newell Brands donated more than 385,000 products valued at over $1.4 million, including masks, gloves, heated blankets, mops, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, childcare products and more. Additionally, the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation provided financial support to Health Research, Inc. to support healthcare workers in the New York City tri-state area. 30,000 surgical shields, developed by the Newell Brands Design Center, were donated to doctors and nurses at various hospitals in New York/New Jersey communities.
In 2017, we joined forces with KaBOOM!, a national nonprofit dedicated to playspace equity. Through funding from the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation and the donation of employee time, Newell Brands employees help build playgrounds in the communities near our operations. Since our partnership launched, we’ve completed eight play spaces in underserved areas in Atlanta, GA; South Deerfield, MA, Miami/Boca Raton, FL; Chicago, IL; High Point, NC and Hoboken, NJ.
Atlanta Public Schools
Since 2015, Newell Brands has sponsored the Atlanta Public Schools “Back to School Bash”, a community event where students can receive free school supplies, health care and more. In addition to financial support and product donations, over one hundred Newell employees volunteer annually. As of 2020, Newell’s Writing, Baby and Food businesses have donated over 1.1 million products to the Bash, filled over 10,000 backpacks with school supplies, and impacted more than 36,000 lives.
To augment our support of the Bash, Newell Brands donates our products throughout the year. In response to COVID-19 in 2020, Rubbermaid donated over 2,000 food storage containers to support the distribution of lunches to students.
Teaching for Change
The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation supports Teaching for Change, a nonprofit championing social justice, starting in the classroom. The organization provides teachers and parents with the tools to create schools where students learn to read, write and change the world.
Our partnership with Teaching for Change supports early childhood, anti-bias education work including curating recommended multicultural, social justice titles for young readers, posting book reviews to highlight ones that are recommended and to caution against those that are not. We also support Teaching for Change’s video series, “Anti-Bias Book Talks,” which aims to strengthen parents and teachers anti-bias, anti-racism lens and their ability to critically analyze children's media.
American Red Cross
The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation partners with disaster relief organizations such as The American Red Cross in times of crisis. We strive to respond to states of emergency with Foundation support, product donations and in some cases, employee contributions through a corporate match.
Last year, Newell Brands supported The American Red Cross during the wildfires that affected several states in the Western U.S. and the bushfires in Australia.
Woodruff Arts Center
In 2020, Newell Brands began its partnership with The Woodruff Arts Center. The Woodruff Arts Center, located in Midtown Atlanta, is the third-largest performing arts center in the nation and home to Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and High Museum of Art. The Center’s focus on diverse programming, along with their mission to be equitable leaders in all areas of the arts, aligns with our diversity and inclusion efforts at Newell Brands. In addition to being a corporate member of the High Museum of Art, which boasts a distinguished collection, dynamic special exhibitions and engaging community-focused programs, Newell Brands provides in-kind product donations from our brands like Sharpie® and Elmer’s® to support the organization’s SmARTBOx program for young children. Our President & CEO, Ravi Saligram, is also a member of the Governing Board of The Woodruff Arts Center. We are proud to support the Center’s continued focus and relentless reinforcement of inclusivity in the Atlanta community and beyond.
Meals on Wheels America
In 2020, Newell Brands made a $50,000 contribution which was matched by our President & CEO, Ravi Saligram and his wife, Dr. Nalini Saligram. Meals on Wheels America is the oldest and largest national organization supporting the more than 5,000 community-based senior nutrition programs across the country that are dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger. This network exists in virtually every community in America and, along with more than two million volunteers, delivers the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.
