As we face the long-term impacts of climate change, biodiversity loss and plastic waste, Newell Brands is looking at ways to meaningfully address the environmental impacts of our operations by expanding our measurement and management programs, investing in new technologies for environmental reporting, setting strategic goals and sharing our progress. Through these efforts we become better stewards of the planet and a more efficient and strategic organization.
Carbon Neutral Commitment
In 2021, Newell Brands announced our commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 for all Scope 1 and 2 emissions across our global portfolio at all manufacturing, distribution, warehousing, storage and office sites. We plan to assess the breadth of our Scope 3 emissions and pathways for efficiencies and reductions prior to including Scope 3 emissions in our carbon neutral future.
We recognize our responsibility to model ethical and sustainable practices at each step of the product lifecycle, as well as in our workplace, operations and communities. We have company-wide 2025 sustainability goals and shared our progress in our annual Corporate Citizenship reports. We are committed to continuing our work to reduce our environmental impact and design better solutions for the future .
- 30 percent of Scope 1& 2 GHG emissions to be reduced by 2025.
- 90 percent of transporters to be SmartWay® approved carriers by 2025.
- 90 percent waste to landfill reduction by 2025.
- 30 percent of our global electricity to be renewable sources by 2030.

- PRODUCT SUSTAINABILITY
- The Sistema® Plastics brand, known for its reusable and multipurpose storage containers, drinkware and lunchboxes, launched its new Renew line that uses between 30-72 percent post-industrial recycled plastic content and can be recycled anywhere #5 polypropylene plastics are accepted.
- The Spontex® brand, which makes household cleaning tools, uses sustainably sourced wood fibers in their cellulose products, such as sponges. Currently, 59 percent of fibers come from PEFCcertified sources. This number will rise to 100 percent by the end of 2021.
