Design team turns waste materials into assets

Our commitment to sustainable design drives us to innovate new products and solutions for our consumers.

This year for Earth Day and as part of our annual Design Jam, the Newell Brands Design team in Kalamazoo, MI took a deep look at how they could turn waste into something new, useful and beautiful in support of circular design. Circular design is focused on the continuous use of materials and minimizing or eliminating waste altogether.

Seventy participants gathered virtually and used digital whiteboards, video conferencing and chat to brainstorm, connect and design with others across regions and businesses. The mission was to take profiles of waste that could have a new life after their end-of-life use was complete. At the conclusion of the Design Jam, more than 60 concepts were created to show how to turn the waste into something new and functional.
