Newell Brands was proud to recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. Day this year through various programming honoring his legacy.

Members of our Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) teamed up with the MLK Jr. Service Project to provide maintenance and repairs to senior citizen homeowners in Decatur, Georgia, a city located near our Atlanta headquarters. The MLK Jr. Service Project was created in 2003 when the city of Decatur identified a need to alleviate the economic pressures on their community’s elderly and enable at-risk seniors to remain in their homes safely and comfortably.

Additionally, BEACON and OPEN, our ERGs for Black and LGBTQ+ employees (respectively) and their allies organized a fireside chat with Rainbow Railroad’s Head of Development, who discussed how Newell Brands employees can support the organization’s work. Rainbow Railroad is a global not-for-profit organization that provide pathways to safety for LGBTQ+ people facing state-enabled persecution in their home countries.

Employees were encouraged to tune in to hear BEACON’s Black Men Excel series that focused on navigating corporate America as a person of color. The discussion featured a panel of employees from different functions of Newell Brands.

Newell Brands is proud to pay homage to Martin Luther King, Jr., and to continue fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion and belonging through our ERG programming and partnerships with organizations like the MLK Jr. Service Project.
