May was yet another month of meaningful diversity, inclusion and belonging (DI&B) programming as Newell Brands celebrated Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, recognized Mental Health Awareness Month and observed Memorial Day.

As part of our AAPI Heritage Month celebration, our Employee Resource Group (ERG) for Asian American and Pacific Islander employees and allies, NAAPA, shared a wide array of content and led educational programs and panels. Employees were invited to participate in a private viewing of the critically acclaimed film Minari, listen to external guest speakers including Bianca Mabute-Louie, participate in a family recipe sharing campaign on Crockpot’s Instagram and more.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, many of our ERGs hosted programs to promote the wellbeing of our employees. BEACON, our ERG for Black employees and allies, hosted an engaging program called Living a Life of Joy featuring a representative from the Refresh Experience. In addition, RAY, our ERG for women and allies, hosted an informative discussion on women’s mental health with Cindy Persico from Health Advocate. Finally, our HR team led a panel with members of Newell’s senior leadership team including Mike Hayes, Chief Customer Officer and Sam Charleston, Senior Vice President, Talent & Culture, on the topic of destigmatizing mental health.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, The Newell Brands Charitable Foundation made a contribution to Crisis Text Line, a global nonprofit providing access to critical, on-demand support for those suffering with COVID-19, anxiety, eating disorders, depression, suicide or self-harm.

As we close out the month with Memorial Day in the U.S., we remember all those who have lost their lives serving our country. VETS, our ERG for veterans, military family members and allies, hosted a 22-minute moment of silence to acknowledge the 22 veteran suicides that occur each day in the U.S., an issue of particular relevance against the backdrop of Mental Health Awareness Month. We thank and honor those who have served our country, and their families.

We are proud of the strides we have made across DI&B and look forward to building on this progress by continuing to drive open, inclusive dialogue and supporting our employees in bringing their whole selves to work.
