We are proud that for the second consecutive year, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) awarded Newell Brands the highest score of 100 percent on their 2022 Corporate Equality Index. The index benchmarks companies based on their corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.

At Newell, we are guided by the values of truth, transparency, teamwork and trust. We embrace diversity and are honored to be recognized, alongside other major U.S. businesses, for promoting LGBTQ+ friendly workplace polices.

To receive a score of 100, Newell was rated by CEI on the detailed criteria following under the four central pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities;

  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families;

  • Supporting an inclusive culture; and,

  • Corporate social responsibility.

Newell’s ERG (employee resource group) for LGBTQ+ employees and allies, OPEN, has played an important role in creating an environment that makes Newell a “Best Places to Work” for LGBTQ+ employees. OPEN is available to all Newell employees and strives to build community and foster a more inclusive environment.

OPEN Executive Sponsor and Vice President of Research and Development, Writing Business said: “I’m thrilled that the Human Rights Campaign has named Newell Brands as a 2022 Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality. This recognition is a testament to our strong leadership and incredible colleagues whose efforts have established a diverse and inclusive culture, making Newell an amazing place to work, grow and thrive.”

OPEN Executive Sponsor and Business Unit CEO, Home Appliances, Chris Robins added: “I am delighted that Newell Brands was awarded the highest score of 100 percent on the Human Rights Campaign 2022 Corporate Equality Index. I am proud of the dedication of our employees and the wider Newell team for their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity and workplace equality.”

Among several incredible initiatives led by OPEN over the past year, the ERG helped to identify nonprofit partner True Color United, the recipient of a donation from the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation in honor of PRIDE Month. The donation went towards advancing the organization’s mission to implement innovative solutions for youth homelessness specific to members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Additionally, Newell has recently updated the employee information report to include an option for new hires to indicate identification as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Adaptations like this along with the wonderful initiatives led by OPEN allow Newell Brands to ensure a work environment that provides equal opportunity for all.
