At Newell Brands, we aim to make a meaningful impact on the world and be a great place to work, grow and succeed. We recently celebrated CommUnity Week, five days of local and companywide programming focused on giving back, service and wellbeing.
One hundred twenty employee ambassadors in 80 locations planned over 200 local activities and events to recognize the importance of supporting and strengthening our communities at work and around the world.
Across the company, employees volunteered over 1,700 hours through various efforts. For example, in Miami, FL and Winfield, KS, they packed meals for underserved communities; in Poznan, Poland, they volunteered at a children’s home and in South Deerfield, MA and Mexico City, Mexico, they held pet supply drives for local animal shelters.
Ambassadors also planned employee engagement events. Our facility in Bangkok, Thailand, hosted a Newell Talent competition; in Fradley, U.K., they organized an educational wildlife walk for team members; and many of our locations created “gratitude walls,” where employees could express their gratitude to their colleagues.
Our corporate teams organized virtual educational events, including a “coffee talk” on philanthropy and a presentation on the evolution of community and service trends.
Throughout the week, we announced donations to support our communities locally and globally. In honor of Juneteenth, the Newell Brands Charitable Foundation supported Teaching for Change (TfC) for the fourth year. TfC encourages teachers and students to question and re-think the world inside and outside their classrooms, build a more equitable, multicultural society and become active global citizens. Newell Brands made a financial contribution to the Canadian Red Cross, supporting relief efforts for those impacted by wildfires providing shelter, financial assistance and more. We also donated tents, sleeping bags, air mattresses and more to our matching gift partner, Save the Children. Save the Children works to ensure children around the world have healthcare, food, shelter, education and child protection services when needed most.
